I think I have a problem

This year, I started keeping a spreadsheet of all the new plant varieties and species I acquire in my garden so when I forget a name, I can easily look it up.

This weekend I entered plant number 158 into that spreadsheet.

Which seems a little excessive, but not really. After all, most of those plants I grew from seed, which is dirt cheap.

It also looks like that number is going to go higher, because the other day this came in the mail:
Guess I'm going to have to go back...

Sounds like you need to join Plantaholics Anonymous. The best part of the meetings? The plant swap at the end.

What? Did you think we were here to help you END or DEAL WITH your plant addiction?

Funny I just decided today was the day I deal with the cup full of plant tags that I've been accumulating since late last summer, when my ability to organize seemed to go out the window. I doubt I'll reach 158 but it seems like an admirable goal.

Diana, you had me at "plant swap" Where do I sign up?

Danger Garden, the secret to high numbers is lots of vegetables from seed. I'm growing 20 kinds of corn alone!

A spread sheet doesn't work for me because computers weren't around when I was born.
I collect all of my plant tags and seed packets and at the end of the season, I tape them alphabetically into a ring binder.

At last count, I had 167 plants on my list. Fortunately, the spring plant sales are over and I can focus on getting my latest acquisitions in the ground before the summer clearance sales start.

I enjoy the blog. First time commenter.

I love my Excel spreadsheet. I'm at three pages on it so far: one for perennials, two for grasses, and three for trees, shrubs, bulbs, and reseeding annuals.

Yes, I do seem to have too much time on my hands. However it was a lifesaver when my garden was on tour and people were asking the names of things I had forgotten. "I'll just check my handy-dandy list here..." One woman was mortally offended I wouldn't give her my only copy.

Allan,
Well, I sort of grew up with a computer programmer for a father, so spread sheets come naturally to me. But you might be tempted to give it a try... it will alphabetize them FOR you!
Bluestem, welcome. Now I'm going to have to buy more plants to pass your number.
Christine, I'm not quite THAT organized yet, though I might get there. Isn't odd how though I know 99% of the varieties in my garden off the top of my head, people always ask about that 1% I've forgotten?
