Seasonally appropriate aphids

Here is a scary picture for Halloween...
This is a milkweed plant I went past on my ride home... what with the orange aphids, the black mold growing on the aphid poop and the overall grossness, I figured it would make a good shot for today.

Very scary sight, truly appropriate for the day.

My milkweed (asclepias incarnata) is covered with those orange aphids, and I'd never seen them before this year! Until now the milkweed had been pest free.

It is rather creepy looking...

Too funny. Saw those on some butterfly weed at the nursery and thought the same thing, "at least they are pumpkin orange." But today their color was meaning less so I got out the insecticidal soap and blasted them.
