Why have I lived so long without fall crocuses?

After years of looking at the fall blooming crocus options in bulb catalogs, this year I finally bought a few.
Oh. My. God.
I am in love. Why on earth have I lived so long without these marvelous things? This is Crocus speciosus, and as you can see, if is insanely beautiful. Elegant. Graceful. Intricate. I think it may be even better than the spring flowering species I have been nuts about forever. Why did I buy so FEW? Next year they're going in by the hundred.

I just got some of these this year, too. I'd be cautious about buying them by the hundreds, though. The rare bulb supplier I got my varieties from, Odyssey bulbs, said that these do best if they are planted in a rich soil at about 7" deep and you dig and replant them every three years. Otherwise they decline and stop blooming.

I'll just have to wait until Spring to see my Crocus....interested in growing loofah sponges?

Susan,
Really? That sounds like a lot of work... maybe I'll see how these perform for a while before investing in hundreds.

Darla,
Loofas? Of course! I tried them one year, but my growing season is so short they didn't ripen before frost. I should try them again sometime...

It looks great!
They are the next bulbs I want to have for next year. I just need to see how this year bulbs do first

I sense a comic out of this...

You need some Ceratostigma plumbaginoides in which to grow them. I wouldn't know about the deep planting and dividing thing, as they were devoured by sowbugs and failed to appear the next year in my garden and I gave up on them.
