When I say I have clay soil...

I mean CLAY.

I was digging a deep, deep hole (for an exciting reason that will soon be disclosed), grabbed a lump of clay, and on a whim sculpted it into this little bird:

I expected it to crumble or fall apart as it dried. It hasn't. It is rock solid. This, folks, is why you don't work soil when it is wet.

Can you make some clay pots?

Jim, I'm half tempted to try making pots! But I think I'd need to build a kiln for that...
