This weeks cartoon is a little different. More serious than silly. But I read something this week, and can't get it out of my mind... This says something about the real reason I garden. If you don't get it, don't worry -- Friday silliness will return next week.
I get it. Very poignant.
ReplyDeleteVery profound!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully illustrated.
The drawing and commentary reflect your serious side as well.
I love that. It reminds me of Katharine White, planting things she knew she would not live to see, and writing about it to Elizabeth Lawrence.
ReplyDeleteI knew a woman who, dying of ovarian cancer, planted obsessively, knowing she'd never see all those daylilies or roses bloom. She planted as a legacy, a gift to the future...
ReplyDeleteHi Joseph, Found your blog via a link on Annie's Annuals. I love this cartoon. So much about gardening is about the entire process, not just the results. From seed to compost it all makes me smile. Glad I found ya here. Look forward to poking around a bit when I have more time.
ReplyDeleteI read that a couple of months ago and have thought about it a time or two since.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading the other comments too.
Thank you so much for the comments everyone. I'm glad this idea struck a chord with you as well.
ReplyDeleteLovely drawing and sentiment, Joseph. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI remember being knocked over by the old B/W 1939 movie "Dark Victory". It was on TV back when I was a young gardener. In that story it's Bette Davis planting bulbs that she will never see in bloom.

This is exactly why we garden. Sometimes it feels good to step back from everyday chores and paperwork to remember that after all, landscaping and gardening is a way to give life, as a gift, for the beauty of it or the perenity or it. Thanks
ReplyDeletebeautiful. I just found your blog through a facebook friend.
ReplyDeleteLove your little images.
