Lawn alternative of the day
I love this hell-strip planting on street with otherwise completely uninteresting front lawns. It is simply masses of violets (why do some people call them weeds?) and a small creeping sedum (of unknown identity -- anyone care to take a stab at IDing it?).

ReplyDeleteLovely...I completely agree with regard to the violets. They are far more interesting than lawn and I am always delighted with their spring flowering. I have tried to explain this to my dad but he still insists on striving for that almost surreal flawless carpet of green that cover so much of suburban Michigan. He is generally were environmentally-minded and all for going green but for some reason he refuses to accept that these lawns - with all the water they need and the massive amounts of fertilzer, herbicides, pesticides that they cause to be released into the environment - are actually much more harmful than more varied plantings.
